Boro Bower - an international project using domestic textiles, disregarded fabric, threads and other materials. Boro Bower supports and celebrates ‘the slow’. It harkens back to days when hand stitching was the only option and make-do was part of the every day. Patches were sewn by hand onto well worn garments and household textiles, to extend the life and limit waste.
Ties that bind can be related to family ties, friendship type ties and ties that
bind us in our community or what we have in common. This community art project culminated in a series of tree ties installed in the park representing links in the community -- each one unique.
Story telling has been an essential component of community life for thousands of years. In days past, people would gather communally to share stories. Stories of encouragement, hardship, pride, fear and sadness were shared as essential parts of life. This community art project invited participants to write a story or poem and interpret their story in the form of a flag (proportions the same as the Canadian flag).
A community art project with an environmental focus bringing individuals together to create art and talk about water protection. In this case, there was the added benefit of increasing awareness regarding the plight of coral reefs in our world. The project included an international call for submissions of fibre art sea creatures and coral structures linking the local fibre art community to the global creative community.
Wheely Wednesdays invited community members to create massive Dorset Buttons from recycled bicycle wheels and reclaimed fabrics. The project provided weekly opportunities to discuss environmental issues related to waste and resulted in a vibrant installation.
